Anto has arguably the hardest job in the whole band.

Thin Lizzy is all about rhythm. I know drummers twice his age who would demure from a Lizzy based gig because the drums are simply too demanding and too hard to pull off properly, basically if it ain’t right it’s as plain as the nose on your face and even to the casual listener.

At the centre of Thin Lizzy was a nucleus of Downey and Lynott and they were the essential core of the sound regardless of who played in the revolving door of guitarists who joined and left.

He’s right there and his drumming sticks like glue to Matt’s bass.

Nobody can play like Brian Downey, but Anto is an essential part of how this band has developed its sound, Tracks like “Angel from the Coast” and “Hollywood” take on a life of their own due to the nuances and the percussiveness of his playing.

He’s always fun to watch and you can bet your life he’s having a ball!
